Essay: Does the Press have too much power?

Due for Tuesday - an essay which uses all that we have looked at so far in class and questions the power of the Press.

Things to consider:

How many people are affected by the ideas in newspapers (reading figures and statistics)?
Who controls the newspapers and ultimately the ideas within them (ideology)?
Which factors effect the type of stories we read in newspapers (new values)?
What part to corporations and international companies play in the production of newspapers all over the world (imperialism)?
How did the PCC come about, who started it, what is it?
Which points have been raised about the PCC's ineffectiveness?
What about freedom of speech?
How do you think the Press should be managed?

As we lost a lesson on Tuesday, I also want you to post the research you did into specific articles and how their 'importance' and position in the newspaper (1st page, 5th page etc.) is effected by news values.

Looking forward to reading your work,

Miss Kelley
